Sure, you've seen photos of dogs in our doghouses before. You've heard tell of cat colonies huddling inside the CRB to stay warm. But have you seen a photo of a goat using our Dog Palace? Have you heard about Pekin ducks living in the CRB? What about rabbits? A potbelly pig? Roosters? Tortoises? Monkeys? Jude, a Dutch rabbit, in a modified CRB. The dog palace was designed for dogs, of course, but you don't have to use it to house dogs. We've had photos emailed to us of a goat peering out of a dog palace, and there are plenty of comments in our reviews on various websites that list several other species who comfortably stay in our houses, sometimes with modifications. On Wayfair, a customer who bought the CRB said that they used it to house their potbelly pig! Another reviewer on Wayfair cited using the Dog Palace as a duck house. How insulation works To understand insulation, you must first understand heat flow . Heat flow occurs in three main ways: conduction, which is how heat moves through materials (like when you touch a cast iron skillet that's been on the stove for awhile); convection, or the way heat circulates through liquids and gases (like when you're boiling water, and the water on the bottom of the pan closest to the heat source gets warm, so it rises, and is replaced with the cooler water from the top, and the cycle goes on); and radiation, where the source heats anything in its path that absorbs energy (like when you warm your hands over a fire). The first Dog Palaces actually had green roofs. It's hard to believe that the Dog Palace has been around for two decades now. ASL Solutions itself was founded in 2000 by Howard Atkison and Bob Guinn, making the company 21 years old this year. Before making dog houses, we actually made wagons, which we called "Yardvarks" (clever, right?). Unfortunately for us, the little red wagon market was pretty saturated by the time we got there. Well, the founders got to thinking. What's a problem we have that there isn't a solution for yet? Both founders realized that they'd both grown up with big, outdoor dogs in their families for generations. But neither of them had ever been particularly satisfied with the dog houses their beloved dogs were staying in. So they came up with a list of features they wanted in a dog house: insulation, an indestructible door, something easy to clean...and thus, the Dog Palace was born: The first manufactured dog house with real foam insula...
